2/22/19

This spring, Bedford students will participate in New Hampshire statewide assessments. Throughout 
the state, students in grades 3-8, and 11 take Math and English Language Arts exams. The grade 11 test
 is the SAT with essay. A science test is also given to students in grades 5, 8, and 11. Parents/guardians
 may ‘opt-out’ their child from state testing. For more information, please click this link.  If you choose
 to exempt your son or daughter from testing at BHS, please send the completed “Opt-out Form” to
 Dean Pond at pondm@sau25.net
Lost and Found:
Parents, Students, and Staff, If you have lost something be sure to check the lost and found!
  • If you have lost clothing, coats, bags, books, etc. please look in the bins located by the 
  • concession stand in the Gym hall.
  • If you have lost smaller items such as a wallet, keys, calculator or phone stop in the 
  • main office and we will assist you.

SAT’s are coming!!  On March 27th all juniors will be taking the SAT.  We have received student 
guide books from the CollegeBoard that are being distributed to students through advisory over the 
next few days.  Please encourage your student to review this guide book prior to March 27th.

Paying for College 101-Do you have questions deciphering your financial aid award letters?  We will 
have a representative from NHHEAF here on March 28th at 6:30 pm in room 137/138 to help.  This event 
is for for seniors and their parents.

When calling your child out sick on the attendance line, please include the following: symptoms of 
influenza-like illness, which is defined as a fever AND cough or sore throat. Fever is a temperature 
greater than or equal to 100 degree fahrenheit or fever-like symptoms such as chills. Please continue
 to include any diagnosis and reason for absence.

Hosting Taiwanese Student Exchange Spring 2019
We are looking for a few additional families to host a Taiwanese student May 11-May 22, 2019.  The students will attend school and excursions during the week and will spend time with your family after school and on the weekend. Danish Exchange 2019-2020-sign up now
This exchange is for upperclassmen since the Danish students are older.

This exchange is for students of Spanish at any level.

IB Coordinator:
Students taking exams are busy completing course IAs and are in the earliest stages of exam preparation. It is a busy time of year for them where several major long-term assignments and projects are coming due. See below for some important dates. In other news, Junior Diploma Candidates are beginning working on their extended essays.

Career Exploration: Technology in the Millyard Field Trip
On March 12th, 2019 during the workshop day, students will have an opportunity to travel to the Manchester Millyard and tour local technology based businesses and UNH Manchester. Food and Nutrition Department:
The breakfast program will be featuring a delicious and nutritious Strawberry Blast Smoothie. It’s loaded with strawberries, bananas and a boost of protein with vanilla Greek yogurt. Fill your body with essential nutrients like vitamin C, folate, potassium, vitamin D and fiber. These powerful vitamins and minerals boost the bodies immune system, promote healthy teeth and bones as well as improving digestion and maintaining a healthy weight. In addition to breakfast combo meals, the kitchen will be offering a homemade Maple Muffin topped with an Oat Streusel. This lovely, healthy treat will keep you feeling full and satisfied with lots of long lasting energy from whole grain complex carbohydrates. This muffin is also featuring Ben’s Sugar Shack local maple syrup as its highly nutritional sweetener. Start the school day off with a bang and don't miss out on these healthy, wholesome NEW breakfast items.
For lunch, the kitchen will be preparing Spicy Sicilian Sliders on Wednesday, February 13th. These delicious bite sized sandwiches contain oven roasted turkey, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni and are sprinkled with Italian flavored parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. To go along with these tasty sliders is a fresh tossed mixed green salad and a homemade vinaigrette.

New this season - In an effort to promote best paperwork processes, including concussion testing requirements for tryouts - Spring athletes by signing up on the preseason list will receive an Email notification from Mr. Parker notifying each athlete IF either an updated physical, ImPACT and/or C3 Logix test is needed.  All deadlines and testing dates are before the Athletes and Coaches meeting (3/13), so everyone should be in good standing for the meeting and ready for tryouts on March 18.

On 2/14, Chris Herren will be coming to BHS to do a presentation for the 9th and 10th grade classes 
about his addiction and road to recovery. If you are interested in learning more about Chris’ journey,

The portal for course selection will be open on Tuesday, February 5th until Tuesday, February 12th for BHS students. Students/parents can go in multiple times to the portal to make adjustments to course selections from February 5th through February 12th. Teachers have made course recommendations that will show in the portal.

AP Exam Registration will be open until Wednesday, February 20th. In order to register students must do two things: fill out a google registration form and submit a check to the Counseling Office for the total cost of the exams they register for. Each exam costs $94. The google registration form for these exams can be found on the BHS Counseling page under "BHS Counseling Announcements".

Course Selection Is Coming Soon
Important Information for parents regarding Course Selection will be provided Monday,  February 4th at 6pm in the Theater. This session will provide you with an overview of the course selection process and is particularly helpful for parents of our current eighth grade students. The portal for course selection will be open on Tuesday, February 5th until Tuesday, February 12th for BHS students. Students/parents can go in multiple times to the portal to make adjustments to course selections from February 5th through February 12th. Teachers have made course recommendations that will show in the portal. There will be Parent Teacher Conferences on January 24th and February 7th at BHS from 3:00 to 6:30. Please remember to schedule a time slot if you would like to attend.

In the Scholastic Art and Writing Contest, BHS students won 3 Gold Keys, 9 Silver Keys, and 13 Honorable Mention. For the first time at BHS, an individual student has won 2 Gold Keys. The works are being shown at Pinkerton Academy.
