Unified Music Concert
One of the most joyous experiences at BHS this holiday season was experienced at this year’s Unified 
Music Concert!  When looking in the faces of our students and audience members, the smiles were
big and bright! A big thank you to all of our unified music students and teachers for providing us with
 the wonderful holiday treat of music!



Lost and Found:
Parents, Students, and Staff, If you have lost something be sure to check the lost and found!
  • If you have lost clothing, coats, bags, books, etc. please look in the bins located by the 
  • concession stand in the Gym hall.
  • If you have lost smaller items such as a wallet, keys, calculator or phone stop in the 
  • main office and we will assist you.

IB Coordinator:
As we look beyond the holidays and into January, it is time to begin thinking about course selection 
for the 2019-2020 school year. To that end, I’d like to extend an open invitation to all students and
families, in any grade, to join me for an IB Information Night on Tuesday January 15 at 6:00pm in the 
BHS Theater.

  • January 15: IB Information Night (all are invited) 6:00pm, BHS Theater

January 10 - Winter Band Concert


Food and Nutrition Department:
The breakfast program will be featuring a delicious and nutritious fruit smoothie. Loaded with fresh fruit and yogurt this smoothie will provide lots of energy and protein to start the school day off with a bang. In addition to breakfast combo meals, the kitchen will be offering a homemade festive holiday gingerbread. This lovely treat will keep you feeling satisfied with its warm spice combination and is topped with a sweet drizzle of vanilla glaze.These featured items are so tasty! Don't miss out on these healthy, wholesome new breakfast items.     
The hot lunch program is featuring an exciting new meal on Monday, December 17th. We will be offering a local beef or falafel patty topped with a mediterranean red pepper sauce and assorted chopped veggies, stuffed into a whole grain pita pocket. This is being paired with a fresh tomato, cucumber & parsley salad and roasted local winter vegetables. On Tuesday, December 18th hot lunch will be offering a fresh spinach salad with pomegranates and a homemade vinaigrette. The sub station is offering a festive holiday inspired wrap: “The Grinch” includes bacon, lettuce, tomato and a spicy avocado sauce in a spinach wrap. Some delicious new recipes to come and try!  


Student Activities:

Winter Play Auditions are December 13, 14, 15.

December 14th, the swim team is putting on a movie night. $3.00 in the theater, 6pm.

MST: The MST Field Trip is on MONDAY January 7th (Form says Friday). Students planning on going must turn in their permission slips by January 3rd, 2019 to Ms. Woods in 229.

RWL: Students can find RWL activities requiring volunteer sign-ups under the “Opportunities” tab when they log into their X2VOL accounts. Students may also continue to log hours on the X2VOL site.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATION with Interim Superintendent Mike Fournier:  Hosted by the PTG, Interim Superintendent Mike Fournier invites you to “Coffee and Conversation”, Tuesday, January 8th, 6:30PM at Bedford Town Library (Richmond Meeting Room)…LIMITED SEATING-RSVP REQUIRED.
This will be a small, informal gathering to discuss Bedford School District happenings.  
In order to be more interactive and personal, seating is limited so you must RSVP here… Coffee&ConversationSignUp  if you wish to attend.
This will be a discussion based gathering, so questions and comments will be encouraged.
Additional get-togethers with Mr. Fournier will take place throughout the school year if you are unable to attend or seats are no longer available.

HANNAFORD HELPS REUSEABLE BAG PROGRAM: Hannaford on Jenkins Road has chosen Bedford PTG to be the beneficiary of the Community Bag program in December. For every green Community reusable bag purchased at Hannaford, on JENKINS ROAD, in December, the PTG will receive a $1.00 donation.

Senior IB Diploma candidates are going through a very busy stretch of time as major assessments
 in several classes are either in the draft phase or in their final phase.

BHS and the 2018/19 Toys For Tots campaign!
  • Please encourage your son/daughter to participate in the 2018/19 Toys for Tots campaign.  
  • To participate, donate a toy with your son/daughter’s Advisory teacher's name taped to the 
  • toy and deposit it in one of the many boxes throughout the school.
  • Toys will be collected until December 14th, after which there will be a final tally and the 
  • Advisory with the most toys collected will win a holiday breakfast.
  • We collected over 400 toys last year. Please help us break that record this year!

IB Coordinator:
IB Exam Confirmation emails along with important information including Personal Codes and PINs (which are used in work submission and in retrieving exam scores) were sent on November 29 to all families and students who have registered for IB Exams. It was sent from the bhsib@bedfordnhk12.net email address. Please look for, read, and save this email.

As many BHS seniors have been completing college applications, I started thinking about IB and the college application process. I get asked often about how Universities view the IB Diploma, and students who take part in the program. Please take a look at this video series in which Assistant Dean of Admission at Stanford University, Debra Von Bargan shares her own experiences with the IB Diploma Programme.

Loaded with fresh pineapple, banana, and carrot, this smoothie will help nourish and brighten the skin and mind with its powerful antioxidant and beta carotene content. In addition to breakfast combo meals, the kitchen will be offering a homemade festive holiday gingerbread. This lovely treat will keep you feeling satisfied with its warm spice combination and is topped with a sweet drizzle of vanilla glaze.These featured items are so tasty! Don't miss out on these healthy, wholesome new breakfast items.     
The hot lunch program has some exciting new recipes to showcase. Monday, December 10th is sandwich on a bun day.  Choose from a new black bean burger, fish filet or bbq pork sandwich topped with assorted vegetables and paired with some local roasted winter squash. On Thursday, December 13th, to go along with our warm and yummy pasta day are crispy panko crusted zucchini sticks. Lastly on Friday, December 14th a warm and hearty southwestern bean soup recipe, prepared with lots of fresh and healthy vegetables and plant based proteins.

COLOR BLAST FUN RUN OPPORTUNITY: It’s not too late to get involved with planning this Colorful community event. Our first planning meeting will be Tuesday, December 11th , 9:00am  at McKelvie. Please email bedfordnhptg@gmail.com for more information, or simply join us on the 11th.

STAND BY ME COMMITTEE:  PTG is proud to sponsor Stand By Me , a day-long workshop event for all 7th grade students and their parents to be held May 31st, 2019 at SNHU. The parent committee is instrumental in organizing this program. If you are interested in finding out more about Stand By Me or would like to join the committee, contact Lurgio’s Guidance Secretary, Beth Fitzgerald or simply come to the next meeting on December 13th 9:30am, at Lurgio. You do NOT need to have a 7th grader to participate on the committee or as a volunteer for the event.

In addition to breakfast combo meals, the kitchen will be offering a homemade whole grain fabulous peach streusel muffin. These featured items are so tasty! Don't miss out on the healthy, wholesome new breakfast items.     
The hot lunch program is bringing in some new local items.  Wednesday December 5th we will have shaved steak with provolone on a whole grain hoagie roll topped with local sauteed mushrooms, peppers and onions! On Thursday, December 6th the kitchen will be featuring homemade mac n cheese. It’s, a tasty meal to warm you up on these snowy, chilly days.
The salad bar will be featuring a bright and flavorful harvest salad. Ingredients include roasted butternut squash, pomegranate seeds, diced avocado, crispy bacon and hearty quinoa on a bed of mixed greens topped with parmesan cheese and a cider vinaigrette. We will be featuring this salad until December 10th.  Stop by the salad station and try our new options!

STAND BY ME COMMITTEE:   PTG is proud to sponsor  Stand By Me  , a day-long workshop event for all 7th grade students and their parents to be held May 31st, 2019 at SNHU. The parent committee is instrumental in organizing this program.  If you are interested in finding out more about Stand By Me or would like to join the committee, contact Lurgio’s Guidance Secretary,  Beth Fitzgerald  or simply come to the next meeting on December 13th 9:30am, at Lurgio. You do NOT need to have a 7th grader to participate on the committee or as a volunteer for the event.

DETECTIVE MATT FLEMING PRESENTS…Social Media: A Predator’s Playground :  Tuesday, December 4th, 7pm in the Ross A. Lurgio Media Center.
Bedford PTG and Ross A. Lurgio Middle School are proud to host Detective Matt Fleming of the Bedford Police Department as he presents about the dangers that teens face on social media. This 1.5 hour presentation is specifically geared towards parents, educators and community leaders who are looking to better understand the technology available to teens today and the ways in which child predators use it to exploit them. Parents who wish to bring their children should use caution as the subject matter is very mature. Click here for more information.
