From the Principal:
Finals and Competency Recovery Week (CRW) 2016
Historically, the “Finals” testing schedule included four testing days and one make-up testing day.  Given the administration of finals will take place approximately mid May to the end of classes, the competency recovery schedule will only include four days.  This will add an additional day for regular instruction.
All assessments given in the mid May to June time frame are “finals” and are designed to assess each competency in a course.   Balancing the scheduling of finals will be overseen by deans to ensure students are not cramming all finals in the last week and teachers are not overwhelmed by grading and making last minute decisions on student attendance for CRW.  The finals testing schedule for specific subject areas may be found in the year-end calendar. The link to the calendar is below.
Students required to attend CRW include:
  • Any student failing or NCY the Y5 grade.
  • Any student who failed or NCY’d fourth quarter.
  • Students who have NCY’d a course in summer school of 2015.
  • Students with an Incomplete grade.
  • Students who have not completed their annual Digital Portfolio entry requirements.

English Summer Enrichment
Exciting news! The Humanities Department will be offering two additional opportunities for students to take courses and earn credit over the summer. If enough students sign up, we will offer a section of Creative Writing and a section of Public Presentations during the summer school session in July. Please see the Counseling page on the website or follow this link for more information. If a student has requested one of these courses for next year and chooses to enroll over the summer, the course will be deleted from the student’s schedule for next year, creating an open spot for either Managed Time or another elective with open seats. Remember, that the summer course will only run if enough students register. Register by the May 15th deadline to secure your spot! After that, students will be enrolled in the course only if a seat remains available.

Student Activities:
Parents Pre-Prom Party  May 6th 7-9  All parents are invited to attend.  The prom committee is still looking for sponsors as well as items to auction off at the silent auction.  Parents will also be able to purchase a prom gift for their student.  Questions should be directed to Mr. Dempsey at
Prom May 7th 6-11
Need RWL hours?  If the answer is yes please see Mr. Dempsey  asap.

In Sports:
All Spring sports are in full-swing and not just during the week.   We have games on weekends too!  Please come and show your support at the baseball or softball fields, including the tennis courts.  There’s plenty of space in our Bulldog stadium to check out lacrosse games.  And, our girl’s and boys’ outdoor track teams just placed first at Timberlane.  Track travels to Exeter on Monday.  Now, that we can enjoy beautiful warm weather - come out and support our athletes, share good sportsmanship, and have fun!
We are looking for students to produce our Spring awards slideshow.   Please contact the Athletic Department if your son or daughter is  interested.  This is also a terrific way for them to earn RWL hours.

From the SAU:
Parent Involvement Survey
If your child receives special education services, you are being asked to complete a survey about the district's efforts to involve parents in improving services and results for children. Paper surveys are in the mail complete with a pre-paid return envelope. If you prefer, you can go to and complete the survey online. Surveys must be completed byMay 13th. Your opinions are very important, and we hope you share them.

Bedford Schools Water Supply
Concerns about the water supply have been in the news recently.  We want to make sure everyone on our community knows that none of the water supplying the Bedford Schools comes from the Merrimack Village Water District. Manchester Water Works supplies Peter Woodbury and Memorial. Pennichuck Water Works supplies McKelvie, Lurgio, Bedford High School, and Riddle Brook through a Manchester water source.
