Monday Senior Finals

Good Morning,

On June 3rd, senior finals are scheduled only for students who are failing a class.  If a senior does not have a final to complete or work to complete, they are not required to be at school.  Any senior may certainly take advantage of our library should they need access to resources.  Senior athletes who do not need to take finals are not required to be in school in order to be eligible for play Monday afternoon.

We are getting closer!

BHS: Co-curricular/Athletic Survey

Hi,

The BHS Community Senate has discussed the "Athletic Tardy" policy found in the Co-Curricular Handbook this year . The question being debated; "Should athletes be held to a different standard than other students when it comes to being tardy to school?" As a way to generate student/staff/parent feedback on this issue we would like your participation in a very brief Google Survey which will be open to the public on Wednesday.  Also, please encourage your Advisees to use any device (school computer, personal device, or phone) to complete the survey during the next three long advisory days.  Because the survey is open to the public they may also complete the survey from home.   The two tardy procedures are spelled out on the survey for comparison purposes.  The link is below.  It will also be on our web site under News.

BHS News

Good Afternoon!

Dress Code:

The arrival of the warm weather (finally) prompts me to remind the students of the difference between school wear and beach wear!   We will be reminding all students they are to keep a sense of modesty in mind as they plan their daily attire.   We do realize that the building can become very warm at this time of year so lighter weight clothing is understandable.  Below I have shared some guidelines you may use to assist your son or daughter as they select clothes for the day.

For the Guys the issue is pants being worn too low.  If the underclothing shows they probably need to pull up their pants and tighten the belt.

For the girls the issues are tops too low and shorts/skirts to short.   For shorts and skirts; if the arms are held relaxed at their sides finger tips should touch cloth.  For tops cleavage should not show.

We made announcements explaining the dress expectations to all students last week.  We have policed the dress code this week and allowed students to change without consequence.  As we did last year, today students will be reminded that if they are in violation of the dress code as of May 13th, they will be sent home for the day, and an "unexcused absence" will be recorded. Any work missed during that day will receive a zero.   Any athlete who is sent home for a dress code violation will be ineligible for athletics.

We believe the students have been given a fair and reasonable amount of time to understand the dress expectations.
Thanks for your support

BHS ~ Another First!

Good Morning!

I am very pleased and proud to report to you all that Bedford High School has been awarded the 2012/13 NH Secondary School of Excellence.  The high school staff and students will be honored at the 2013 Ed'ies  Awards to be held on June 8.  The Ed'ies, now in its twentieth year, strives to recognize and honor the very best teachers and schools in our State.  While a great honor for BHS, it is quite a statement about the Bedford communities support of our schools and the excellent work being done in our K-8 classrooms!

Testing Information

May is an important Testing time at BHS.  Beginning on May 2nd through May 21st, IB and AP testing will be taking place.  Testing generally takes place off-site to ensure a consistent test environment.

All Juniors will participate in the NECAP Science test on May 7th and 8th beginning at 8:00am.  Please be sure to encourage your Junior to get a good nights sleep and a good breakfast before the test.  BHS Juniors have historically led the State in scoring on this exam and we would like to keep the tradition alive!

BHS Theater Production:

If you love theater, Almost, Maine is for you. If you think you don’t love theater, Almost, Maine is for you. This “bromantic comedy” about the people of northern Maine is funny, poignant, and straight-up sweet. It’s light, fun, and short  - perfect for this moment in the year. You can’t help but fall in love with this quirky gem of a play. If you see one thing at BHS this year, make it Almost, Maine!

The play runs ThursdayMay 9th through Saturday May 11th at 7:00 pm. It makes a great date, girl’s night out, or pre-Mother’s Day treat. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. We think fifth graders and up would enjoy the themes and material. We hope to see you there!

May 15th
BHS concert band will be presenting their Spring "Pops" concert.   If you have the time, it is certainly well worth attending!!
