BHS: PLEASE READ

Dec. 21, 2012

Dear Parents,

School officials were informed that a bomb threat was found written on a wall in one of the boys lavatories.   This morning school officials met with the Bedford Police and Fire Departments to determine an appropriate course of action.  The Emergency Officials classified the threat as a “low level” threat. While we are confident that this was an empty threat, we are taking all appropriate action as a precautionary measure.  The campus will be closed and student dismissals will be prohibited until the situation is resolved.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated .

Sincerely,

William P. Hagen

Healthy Foods

Dear Parents,

Because our minds can be elsewhere during this trying time, I thought it might be helpful to send this quick reminder.  When we get back from vacation, we will begin following the new district policy about the food we bring to share with other students at parties, celebrations and meetings during the school day.  The policy does not apply to snacks students bring for themselves or to activities held before or after school hours.

If you choose packaged or processed foods, check out the label to make sure each serving has:
o   Less than 200 calories;
o   Less than 35% of total calories from fat;
o   Less than 10% of calories from saturated fats;
o   Zero trans fats;
o   Less than 35% of calories from total sugars; and
o   Less than 200 mg sodium.
Or to keep it simple, choose fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and/or fat-free and low-fat milk or milk products*
Please keep in mind that we are all learning how to understand these guidelines and to make healthier choices.  We will figure out how it works over time.  To help, we have begun posting ideas and examples at www.sau25.net ==> Curriculum ==> Wellness.   During the spring semester, we will update this website with more ideas.  If you have one, please share it with us!

Thank you for your patience and commitment as we work towards this goal together.

Sincerely,

Principal

* This includes lactose-free and soy beverages and foods made from them.

P.S.  Remember that the policy does not apply to snacks students bring for themselves or to foods and beverages at activities held before or after school hours.  It does require that we share healthy foods and beverages during the school day.

Lost & Found

Good Morning,

Over the course of the school year our lost and found collection grows.  Periodically, during the year we collect the unclaimed items and ship them to the local homeless shelter.  Next Wednesday we will be loading up those unclaimed items sending them off .  If your son or daughter has lost a jacket, coat, sweatshirt, cell phone, please have them check the lost and found. It is located by the front office.

BEDFORD STUDENTS MAKE LAST MINUTE PUSH FOR “TOYS”

BEDFORD, NH, December 11, 2012 –– Many Bedford students are expected to join McKenzie Brown, Junior Ambassador for the McKeryn Bridge Foundation on Saturday, December 22nd for a last minute push for the Toys for Tots Christmas drive. “Our plan is to park a big truck in the lower lot of the Bedford Middle School/High School property.  We are asking everyone who has not yet donated to please bring a new, unwrapped toy(s) to this Foundation event between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Brown said.” Miss Brown, a high school junior and varsity basketball player is leading this one day push and coordinating volunteer students from Bedford High School, Ross A. Lurgio Middle School, and McKelvie Intermediate School. Brown is joined by her brothers, Ryan and Erik, also foundation junior ambassadors, in asking the town residents to donate to those less fortunate during this holiday season.

 The McKeryn Bridge Foundation is a not for profit organization that helps individuals and families that have fallen on difficult times. Toys for Tots is a trademark of the United State Marine Corps.
